It’s been some time now… and I am truly sorry about that. It was pretty hectic in the last months. Additionally, my camera was in for repairs so I wasn’t able to take some nice pictures. There was a huge forest fire on the other side of the mountain only a few hundred metres away. After it had burnt for like two weeks the fire department finally took action and then it was helicopters all day, every day. Flying people and supplies up. Some of them hand those funny water buckets… At one point it was really bad. But hey I was in cape town by the time. Sebastian was here and we had an awesome time… I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. In comparison to our little farm here in the middle of nowhere Cape Town is a pretty busy city. But you have a lot of advantages… like pizza ![]()
And music stores…. bought a couple of cool South African rock and metal cds. Btw: My Afrikaans is getting pretty good
Originally I wanted to write an entry about the wildlife (besides the wolves) in South Africa. Have you ever heard of the Knysna Elephants? There are wild elephants living in the forest around Knysna that nobody has ever seen. The just find droppings and tracks… cool, ne
What else.. .oh yeah… At one point I found about 10 different moth types in our bathroom and on one occasion I saw a scorpion that was carrying approximately 20 little baby scorpions on its back… funky stuff.
I still haven’t built my lookout point yet… but today we prepared the poles. We just have to transport them …. those big bastards… I have no idea how we are going to do that.
Over the last few month I have slaughtered about a million calves, hundreds of cows and the occasional horses. Here a nice picture:
A few days back I witnessed a initiation ceremony for a Sangoma, a South African Witch Doctor. We sacrificed a chicken… I am just waiting for the goat ceremony… that’s gonna be messy
The ticks are keeping me seriously busy: We moved the cubs into their own enclosure and I am busy all the time checking their gums and their eyes. If they go white… put him in the vet cage and boost them with vitamins and the parasite killing medicine. I have 6 cubs left and I am getting really paranoid about it. Well I found a 6 leaf-ed clover…That ought to bring me luck…
So long…
Heiko
